Masterton Branch of Labour Party.
The annual meeting of the above was held on February Ist, about sixty members being present. Mr. P. Smith occupied the chair, and congratulated those present on the activity shown by the branch during the year.
It was decided to ask the Rev. Mr. Hudson, of Wellington, to speak at Masterton under the auspices of the branch at an early date. The following resolution was carried unanimously, being moved by Mr. McLeod and seconded by Mr. Gardiner:— "That it be a remit to the Conference at Easter, to be placed on the Order Paper that a conference of all Labour bodies be called, with a view- of healing the division in the ranks of Labour, to ensure solidarity." The following officers we-re elected :—
President, Mr. Langston; Vice-Pres.i-dent, Mr. Smith,- Secretary and Treasurer, Mr. O'Regan ; Executive,, Messrs. McLeod, Flanagan, AVebb, Gardiner and Sheppard.
Mr. Waddell, General Secretary Shearers' Union, and Mr. Cameron, Secretary Anti-Chinese League, were present, and said that during their visits to various parts of the Dominion they found that Labour was making rapid strides everywhere. The meeting was enthusiastic on the need of a solid, all-round Labour paper that would not be chained to the verandah post of any section., but that would tight the battles of all.
