A REJOINDER.

Mr. F. Freeman, in the course of a rejoinder to Mr. A. H. Maude's letter (December issue), states that he certainly includes " co-operators " among "capitalists." ' Inasmuch as the employer can exist only by appropriating the surplus value of the product of the labourer, Mr. Freeman contends that he can never be "just," though he may often be "kind.," "considerate," etc.; and asserts that his own aim was to show (1) that the propounding of out-of-date and exploded theories tended to blind the workers to their right to the whole product of their labours; and (2) that there can never be any harmony between the capitalistic class and the wage-earning class. Mr. Freeman concludes by stating that he is a Socialist and ari Industrial Unionist, but not an Anarchist.
