QUACKS.

As stated elsewhere, no " quack " advertisements of any kind whatsoever will be inserted m the columns of "The Maoriland Worker." The advertising columns of this paper will be as tc clean " as the editorial columns. In this respect " The Maoriland Worker " will be unique in the history of New Zealand journalism. Hitherto, among the newspapers of this country, there has been a conspiracy of silence almost as complete .as it is iniquitous in regard + o patent medicine frauds. The Health Department, by means of the Quackery Prevention Act and the prohibition of postal facilities to certain notoriously fraudulent persons, has endeavoured to protect the NewZealand people against this worst of all forms of exploitation ; but its efforts have been largely frustrated by the conscienceless publication of advertisements in the columns of all the leading dailies, for the mere sake of profitmaking. As Mr T. E. Taylor has pointed out, the advertising columns dominate the policy of the ordinary newspaper; and the main question considered is: Will it pay? Now, for the first time, the workers are given a paper which sets national and individual righteousness above mere profit-mongering. The conspiracy of silence is shattered.
