RAILWAY TRAVEL.
SOME SPRINGTIME FIGURES. During the past six weeks close on 2500 excursionists (exclusive of race meeting patrons, have availed themselves of special outings arranged by or in conjunction with the Railways Department. Trips from Auckland and Wellington to National Park, and one from Wellington to Frankton Junction and Auckland, accounted for the major number of bookings in the North Island, A trampers’ excursion from Christchurch to Hawarden, and a Corsair Club week-end trip from Christchurch to Dunedin and back, attracted over 1100 passengers. With the approach of longer and warmer days, more frequent rail excursions throughout the Dominion will soon be the vogue, and there appears to be every prospect of the coming season eclipsing last summer’s figures in the number of passenger journeys over railway routes.
