Stronach Morris, Dunedin, report for week ending Thursday, 3rd November: —
Fat Cattle.—A smaller yarding of fat cattle numbering 190 was penned for yesterday's market. With the exception of two to three ■consignments of extra prime cattle, the bulk of the yarding consisted of medium weights. The market for all prime heavy cattle caa be quoted fully £2 per head in advance of last sale’s rates. Medium weights did not participate in this rise to same extent, but sold firm on last week’s rates. Extra prime heavy bullocks to £24 12s 6d; prime heavy £l9 7s fid to £2l 17s fid; price £l7 7s fid to £l9 2s fid; light and medium £l3 2s fid to £ls 17s fid; extra prime cows and heifers to £ls 17s fid; prime heavy £l3 7s fid to £l4 2s fid; medium £lO 12s fid to £l2 17s fid; light and unfinished £4 lis fid to £lO 7s fid.
Fat Sheep.— Another full yarding of fat sheep was penned, approximately 1900 being yarded, this number being in excess ot butchers' requirements following on last week’s heavy yarding. With the exception of three or four consignments of heavy wethers and ewes, the bulk of the yarding was made up of medium weights with shorn sheep in greater supply. The market however, for all heavy ewes and wethers was on a par to Is firmer, but medium weights on the whole were hardly up to last week’s prices, butchers showing a preference for shorn sheep. Medium weight woolly ewes showed a decided drop and can be quoted fully 2s to 3s below last week’s rates. Extra prime heavy wethers (wool) to 41s; prime heavy wool 31s to 34s 3d; shorn 26s to 27s 9d; medium wool 26s to 295; shorn 23s fid to 25s fid; light and unfinished shorn 17s to 21s; extra prime heavy ewes wool to 29s 3d; and unfinished shorn 17s to 21s; extra prime heavy ewes wool to 29s 3d; prime shorn to 235; medium to light wool 14s fid to 245; shorn 14s to 235. Fat Lambs. —There were 85 fat lambs penned, competition being keen for good quality lambs, and prices were on a par with last week’s rates. Extra prime lambs
30s to 365; prime 25s fid to 295; light and unfinished 19s to 235. Fat Pigs.—There was a very large entry of fat pigs and prices for both haconers and porkers showed a drop of fully 10s per head. Store Pigs.—There was a fair entry of stores and prices all round were firm. Oats—The market is very quiet and the demand is confined to heavy lines of Gartons which are meeting with slow enquiry and are bringing up to 2s lOd on trucks country sidings. Wheat.—There is no milling wheat offering and fowl wheat meets with steady demand at up to 6s fid ex store, Dunedin. Potatoes.—The market is lifeless. There are still fair quantities held in store which require picking over, and the only sale is for freshly picked lines which are bringing up to £3 ex store, Dunedin. Chaff. —The demand is quiet and and it is difficult to make sales of truck lots. Small lots ex store are bringing up to £6. Sheepskins.—We held our usual fortnightly sheepskin sale on Tuesday, and offered a large catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. There was keen competition though last sale’s prices were barely maintained, in some cases being easier from jrd to |d.
