Tho monthly meeting was held on Thursday last. Present The Mayor (Mr F. A. Laloli), Crs T. Waigth, J. C. Gilchrist. H. A. Tamblyn, F. E. Vercoe and the town clerk. An apology of nonattendance was received from Cr G. N. Jeffery. Corrropondence The Minister of Internal Affairs forwarded copy of N.Z. Centennial Act and also particulars of* the following Legislation passed nti the last Session. King George j the Fifth Memorial Fund Act, 1938, Statutes Amendment Act, 1938, the Finance Act, 1938, and Municipal Corporations Act Amendment 1938.—Received. Webb, Allen, Walker and Anderson, Dunedin, enclosed four copies of Memorandum of Vohmtary Settlement in connection with Duff Bros, for completion by the Council before returning to them. —lt was decided that the Mayor and clerk sign the documents on behalf of the Council. Bank of New Zealand, Roxburgh, enclosing solicitors costs for preparing the debenture and securities on the Sewerage and Drainage Advances Loan. —Received. Brasch and Thomson, Dunedin, asked to be advised of the payments and dates in connection with Mrs Raffills sanitary installation.—lnformation to be sent on as requested. Otago Centennial Council thanked Council for its quick decision in agreeing to pay share apportion for Otago representation at Exhibition.—Received. Employment Office re more subsidy on tree planting scheme. — Attended. N.Z. Standards Institute re National grading rules of timber, etc. —Received. Dunedin City Council re Municipal Association Conference being held in Dunedin on- March S, 1939, and asking for prompt advice as to what the Council would require in the way of 'accomodation. —Received and to advise that delegates if any would be able to arrange their own accommodation. Municipal Assn, of N.Z. enclosing copies of minutes of meetingheld on the 30th Sept, and also memorandum re 1939 Conference in Dunedin. —Received. Otago Employers Assn enclosingterms of settlement reached in the Local Body Clerical Workers’ Industrial dispute.—Received. Transport Department enclosing a drawing of proposed traffic sign for use at certain intersections and asking for thq council’s views on same before November 15. — Left to Cr Waigth. R. Fleming asking why plumbers fittings could be procured 'Cheaper from the local tradespeople than from the in connection with the Council’s sewerage installations. Also asking to be supplied with!, each day’s , time of the plumber whilst puttingin his installations. —To be supplied. General The Mayor reported that the advance agent of Soles Circus had waited on him on the matter of securing the Sjports Ground on Nov. 15.—1t was decided that the use of the ground be offered for the sum of £2. The circus to also take out the required license fee which was £2 2s. It was decided to look into the question of having the required resolution in connection with the giving up of the present Poud and the making of a new position for a new Pound paddock. Tar sealing poll loan.—lt was decided to draw up a circular to send out to each ratepayer in connection with the arrangements by which the loan was to be paid back by the Council. Sections for sale. —It was decided to advertise that suitable building sections were for sale in the Borough. | It was decided that Council meetings from now on be held at 8 p.m. Reports Works report for past month Stated that the banking of the road at the Hospital corner had been completed and that boulders would be placed on the bank as protection to motorists. Leaky joints in the main in Scotland St. bad been repaired 'and one valve cover fitted. Paths and channels in Scotland Street from Till Street upwards were being cleaned. A water service bad been laid to Mr R. Beaton’s property. The shed had been removed from the Pound paddock to its new location in the gravel pit. The main highway has now received its primary coat preparatory to sealing of same. Pictures report states that the attendances during the month had been good. Reserves Report stated that the lambing had been very successful and that transplanting was still being carried out on the tailings and that subsidy for a further two weeks on sine had been -applied for.

The Clerk’s report stated that receipts amounting to £538 19s IGd had been received during the month and accounts amounting to £940 18s 4d were passed for payment.
