METHODIST QUARTERLY MEETING

The quarterly meeting of officials and representatives of the Roxburgh Methodist circuit was held in the vestry, Roxburgh, on Monday evening, October 10. The attendance was only slightly below normal, in spite of the weather and a big. political meeting. Membership returns showed an increase of several seniors, with a slight 1 decrease of juniors, owing to promotions, seven young people having been publicly received as full members at Coal Creek on the previous Sunday. The youth work of the district was reported in a healthy and highly satisfactory condition,, mainly owing to the fairly recent revival of the Christian Endeavour movement in the district. The work of the Sunday schools was satisfactory. The balance sheet, as presented by Mr A. J. Wood, circuit steward, showed a credit of £ll, and it was decided, in view of the magnanimous treatment accorded the circuit by the Home Mission Board, to donate an additional £5 to that fund. It was decided to send a resolution of thanks and appreciation to Mr and Mrs Andrew Johnston, in view of their splendid work in the district in conducting mission services; also to Mr and Mrs T. P. Michelle for hospitising Mr and Mrs Johnston. The Rev. C. B. Jordan received and accepted a hearty and unanimous invitation to remain in the circuit a fourth year, tribute being paid by the speakers to Mr Jordan’s work both in the pulpit and in the homes of the people. Mrs Jordan also shared in the appreciation expressed. Messrs W. H. Aitchison and E. A. Bloxham were elected lay representatives to the annua] district synod, Mrs Aitchison and Mr W. J. Haughton being elected substitutes.
