f 1 ■" mm Defence League. A meeting was held in the Lawrence Council Chambers on Saturday evening to consider the formation of a branch of the N.Z. Defence League. The Mayor of Lawrence (Mr R. F. Batchelor), who had called the meeting explained to a moderate sized and representative gathering the objects and constitution - of the League. Some discussion followed and it was decided to form a branch in Lawrence. Mr E. A. Winchester was elected president and Mr F. J. Brooks secretary, the remainder of those present being formed into a committee with power to add to their number.
