A SISTER'S HONOR.
Very dramatic is a trial which has just been concluded at the Renncs Assize Court. The prisoner was a young woman who kept house for her father, a widower, and brought up her brothers and sisters, four in number. One of the girls, during her elder sister's absence from home, was cruelly deceived by a neighbor under a promise of marriage, which he afterwards refused to fulfil. The prisoner, who had repeatedly reminded him in vain of his pledge, took occasion latterly to speak again very seriously to the man on the subject, and implored him to marry her sister. With a rude laugh he replied that he would do nothing of the kind, and he then became so insolent in his demeanor that the young woman, in self-defence, drew a knife from her pocket and stabbed him to the heart. The utmost sympathy had been displayed for the accused, who had borne an excellent character, and loud was the applause in court when she was acquitted.
