MILTON EARTHENWARE AT THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.
It must be very gratifying to Messrs Reeves and Co. to learn that their exhibits at the Melbourne exhibition were considered, worthy (.• being judged in the same class as those of the oldest European potteries, as we find in the list of awards of porcelain and earthenware the fourth order of merit was awarded to Messrs Reeves and Co., Dunedin Elbogener Porcelain Company of E'logen, Austria, whilst the well-known firm of Pinder, Browne, and Co. and Banes, Gilder, and Co., of England , were awarded third order of merit. We ('Daily Times') were quite prepared to learn thst for Colonial pottery the Milton works would take the palm, as the Victorian papers referred to these exhibited as being the best Colonial earthenware, but we did not think at this early stage of the pottery industry in this Colony that any ware could be produced that could at all bear comparison with European manufactures. According to this award—theirbeing no American of Australian exhibits mentioned we may safely assume that Messrs Reeves and Co. will be awarded first prize for Colonial earthenware. We congratulate Messrs Reeves and Co., and predict a prosperous future for the Milton Pottery.
