LODGE HOPE OF ROXBURGH, I. O. G. T.

The above Lodge met for business on Saturday evening last, after which an open harmony meeting was held. There was a large attendance of members of the Order, and also of their friends. The harmony meeting opened at half-past eight, Mr Fitzgerald, W.C.T., occupying the chair. The proceedings throughout were of a very enjoyable character, and refreshments were dispensed during the evening with a bountiful hand. Recitations and songs were given as follows : Bro. Fi'zgerald, readiug; Bro. William Smith, song ; Miss Annie Broad, recita-

j ; tion ; Mr J. J. Smith, song ; Bro. Robt. I Smith, recitation; Mist Higgs, song; > Bro. Wilkes, soug; Bro. Mercer, song, | and chorus (Messrs Hyndman and Fish); iMr Fish, song and chorus; Mrs F. ! Woodhduse, song (encored); Mr Holman, ! song and chorus; Mr J. J. Smith, recitation ; Bro. Mercer, song and chorus. —The Chairman, at the close, said a few words bearing on the good resulting from such meetings. He thought many pleasant hours could be spent during the winter evenings by holding such meetings. He remarked that many times he had attended meetings in Dunedin of a | similar nature, and which were not equal to the one they had enjoyed that evening. There was plenty of talent in the district, if they could only be induced to come forward—Mr Burton kindly presided at the piano during the evening, and at the close the Chairman mentioned that those who wished could remain a short time for a dance. These meetings would take well during the winter evenings, and we hope to see them held more frequently.
