RAILWAY ACCIDENT AT KENSINGTON.

A mmor was circulated in this district on Thursday last to the effect that seven peopla had been killed in Duuedin the previous evening, by being run over by a traracar. Further inquiry, however, revealed the fact that the occurrence had been greatly exaggerated. The place was Kensington croesing, where a cab containing Messrs Lyons, Roberts, Mayo, Armstrong, Fairburn and Lloyd, all connected with the Hotel trade, was run into by the Walfon Park poods train, due in Dunedit} at 8.30. The sufferers were removed to the Hospital, where their injuries were attended to. The "Morning Herald," of Friday, says:—"Mr Lyons is not hurt, and was able to attend to business yesterday. Mr Roberts, we hear, ib but little hurt. Mr Harry Mayo, late of the Robert Burne Hotel, is in an almost hopeless state. He has a fracture of the skull, concussion of the brain, and extemive scalp wounds. Mr C. C. Armstrong is badly brnised on the xigki rH>B and on the right hip. Though Jtf was able to assist in helping tWe who' were worse wcßinkJ tbaa iimielf on the

previous evening, he was confined to his bed yesterday. Mr Lloyd, formerly cook at Watson's Hotel,who waa seriously injured in the back, is somewhat im« proved, and there is some chance of his recovery. Mr Fairburn, who had his toes taken off, has also one of his arms hurt. Keys, the cabman, i 3 bruised in the limbs, but it is not thought has received much of a shock, and his injuries are not serious."—Mr Mayo has suocumbed to the injuries he received. His death took place at 1.40 on Saturday morniugi The "Morning Herald" says the widow has been left in most distressing circumstances. Subscriptions are being collected for her, and lists are open at the City Exchange and Watson's Hotels. The others are progressing favorably.
