(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 21. Two raids were made by the Manpower authorities in Wellington to-day, a billiard saloon and a fairly large hotel bar being visited. It was the first action of the kind in Wellington. About 20 men were in the billiard saloon when five interviewing officers acompanied by constables arrived. The questioning was accepted with a good grace both here and in tho hotel bar where there were over 50 men. It was subsequently reported by the Manpower authorities that about 10 per cent, of the men interviewed during the afternon were cases requiring further investigation. FURTHER RAIDS IN AUCKLAND AUCKLAND, March 21. Further visits to the Auckland city picture theatres were made this afternon by investigating officers from tho National Department to make a check on absentees from work. The visits were conducted on the aamo lines as those which took place recently aud six theatres were attended byofficers who confined their attention to women patrons. Although a considerable number of interviews were carried out it was apparent that previous visits had had an effect. There was a smaller proportion of absentees among tho women interviewed. For selling liquor after hours a fine of £lO and costs £1 2s was imposed on C. L. Pepperill, licensee of the Apitl Hotel, by Mr. A. Coleman, S.M., at the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Violet R. Pepperill was fined a like amount with 12s costs for unlawfully supply liquor. J. G. Cawood for being found on licensed premises after hours was fined £2 and costs 12s and for consuming liquor after hours was fined a like sum with l'Os costs. Similar charges were preferred against A. E. Prujean, who was fined £3 for consuming liquor on licensed premises after hours and £2 for being found on the Apiti Hotel aft*>r hours, together with costs on ca*J
