A Small Voyager
With no paddle, but with two pint bottles of milk, a small boy made an adventurous voyage across Wellington harbour in an eight-foot canoe on Monday. He was sighted at 11 a.m. drifting in his frail craft off Ngahauranga,
and fears were felt for his safety till the canoe drifted close enough to the rocks for him to be rescued. Ho was very cold, and said he had drifted from Miramar. The harbour water ‘was very choppy and he had sat right back in the canoe and kept the bow out of the water as much as possible.
Sideshow Mishap About a dozen peoplo were injured, three of whom were later admitted to hospital, when they were thrown to the ground from revolving wooden boats, which formed part of a sideshow at the Ngaruawahia regatta. The injured people were enjoying a ride on a sideshow known as 1 ‘ The .Atlantic Flier, ’’ which consists of a number of wooden boats which rotate through the air. It is believed that the accident was caused by a nut which fastened one boat to the apparatus becoming loose. Before the machine could bo stopped, the loosened boat damaged several others and threw their occupants in all directions. Some people were hurled a considerable distance. At, least eight people were treated for minor injuries toy meniDers of the St. John Ambulance.
