Cleaning Rags for the Army
As a link in the Dominion-wide drive next -Saturday, the Feilding Girl Guides are collecting rags urgently required for use by the Navy, Army and Air Departments in keeping guns, planes and other valuable war equipment serviceable. As a result of two previous similar drives large quantities of useful rags were delivered to the military authorities resulting in a total of £2537 being handed over to patriotic funds. As on similar occasions by arrangement with the National Council for Reclamation of Waste Materials the services of the Girl Guides have been co-opted for the present drive. Although rags of a cotton texture are required mainly, other rags, either silks or woollens or mixed will bo equally welcome, as these can be sorted and what are not required by the military can be diverted to waste materials and patriotic channels. One thing is important! In view of the fact that the collectors arp young girls who are undertaking unusual and heavy work it is important that the rags are clean and householders can assist further by making up the rags into neat bundles and leaving them at the gate by one o ’clock on Saturday when the local drive is timed to commence. Several cars have been placed at the disposal of the guides to assist them with the drive and it is confidently anticipated that the citizens of Feilding will cooperate to the full in this national effort.
