Sourabaya Again Heavily Bombed
1300 TONS OF BOMBS ON WEWAK IN EIGHT DAYS Received Monday, 9.30 pjn. SYDNEY, March 20. Sourabaya (Java) was heavily bombed on Saturday for the second time in three days. MacArthur’s raiding Liberators left the enemy naval yards and factory areas ablaze. The bombers had to contend with tropical thunderstorms on their 2400-mile flight but all returned safely. In eight successive day raids nearly 1300 tons of bombs have been dropped on the enemy base of Wewak (New Guinea.) On Saturday our latest attacking force delivered 200 tons of explosives, starting extensive fires. Our air patrols also struck heavily at a Japanese convoy near Hollandia (Dutch New Guinea). They sank a 3000-ton freighter, severely damaged a 15000-ton freighter and a destroyer. Two other freighters and four unidentified vessels, possibly escort craft, were also included in the convoy.
