De Gaulle Again ’ Up Against Allies
Received Tuesday, 12.15 a.m. LONDON, March 20. Observers believe de Gaulle’s fate as p French leader and the fate of the a French Committee of National Libera- s< tion hang in the balance pending deter- a mination of tho Allied policy concern t< ing France, says the New York Times’ c Algiers correspondent. The Committee p desires to be recognised by the Allies s< not nocessarily as the Government but as the sole executive instrument of ad- a ministration. It is believed that unless h it can go to France in such a capacity £ it will decline to go at all. ij The Committee considers it has been v let down by Britain, America and q Russia. Circles close to de Gaulle believe the Americans have recently been _ unofficially in touch with some former Vichyites, considering them as possible provisional leaders after France’s liberation. Several rebuffs from the three great Powers cut de Gaulle to the quick. It is understood the Committee recently drew up a detailed plan for the administration of France from the monjent of the Allied landing but apparently neither this nor other proposals have tl been accepted by the Allies. f tj By special arrangement Reuter’s world service, in addition to other special gj compilation of oversea intelligence pub- „ lished in this issue, and all rights therein , in Australia and New Zealand are is reserved. a<
