(From Our Own Correspondent.) A card party and dance was held recently to welcomo home several soldiers from service overseas. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by u professional orchestra. The winners of tho cards proved to be: Ladies, Airs. Bickers 1 and Airs. It. Wilkie 2; while Private Wilkie won tho men’s prize. An item by Miss Caryll Reid was enjoyed, and the Monte Carlo was won by .Sergeant F. Rink and partner. Air. W. P. Bickers, chairman of the Hall Committee, called on the guests of honour to come on to the stage and congratulated them all on lheir safe return to New Zealand. The guosts were Sergeant F. Rink, Private H. Brewster, Private D. Bowater and Airs. Bowater, all of Alakino, Private C. Peck, of Feilding, and Driver and Mrs. P. Bur-, field-Alills, of Ngaio, who were visitiugi the district. Airs.. Bowater and Mrs.; Alills were presented with shoulder; sprays by Elva Bickers. The returned men all responded and extended thanks for such au enjoyable evening, while Driver Burfield-Alills gave a brief account of his escape from Italy where he was a prisoner for almost two years. At the Alakino Women’s Fellowship Arrs. Thompson presided in the absence of the president, Airs. Baker, junr. Sister Violet Kruse is to give a talk in Feilding on April 4, both in the afternoon and evening, and all members are; invited to attend. Alesdamcs Bowater.' A. Humphrey and Signal were recipi-; cats of birthday greetings. The Dominion president’s quarterly letter war, read by Airs. Thompson, while members j read some of the sisters' letters aloud. A competition was won by Airs. Thonip-! son. Aftenoon tea was served by Ales- 1 dames Whitehead and A 1 itch ell, and hostesses for April will be Mesdames Walker and R. Humphrey. Airs. Pilcher will be social steward. Harvest Festival services were held on Sunday last, the preacher being Rev. W. T. Blight. Aliss Grey sang a hymn. On Alonday evening tho sale of the fine array of gifts took place when a good, sum of money was raised. The monthly card evening was held recently when the following were the ? prize winners: Ladies, Airs. W. E. Hills i, Airs. McDonald (sealed); men, Air. | D. Thompson I, Mr. Alex AlcDonaldj (sealed). Residents arc reminded that the an-1 nual meeting of the Hall Committee | will be held on April 15 and all are urged to attend. Driver and Mrs. P. Burfield-Alills and I their small daughter, Lynnctte, have re-; turned to their home at Ngaio after spending an enjoyable holiday with Air. I and Mrs. T. A. Shalders. Airs. J. Clarke and Dallas are holi , daying at Ngaio and Wellington. Mrs. Pattle, who lias been visiting I her daughter, Mrs. J. Whairu, has re-1 turned to her home. Airs. D. Reid has been visiting Wellington. Air. and Mrs. D. Sand brook and family have returned from a holiday spent at Foxton Beach. Mrs. Amer is visiting the district as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Bickers. Air. and Airs. P. Petersen, accompanied by Air. and Airs. R. Petersen and family have all returned from an enjoyable holiday at Foxton Beach. Airs. Rowland is visiting Mr. and Airs. W. O. R. Baker.
