Progress League Requests
Matters brought before the Borough Council's notice by the Progress League at the recent Borough Council meeting included a request lor free use of the Recreational Grounds for sports clubs, tho need of a proper drive on the cemetery hillside, and also the fact that graves were covered with spoil when fresh ones were opened up. ‘Dealing with the latter Mr. Forbes said that suitable boards were being constructed to obviate the need to put spoil on to other graves. The Reserves Committee is to report on the proposed drive on the side of the hiii. In regard to charges for the "Rec," Cr. Smith asked if a minute w'ere not on the books granting the free use of the ground unless a charge was made at the gate. This was found to be the case, but the Council had the right to decide about Sunday play. Cr. Goodman: "Don't think I'm against Sunday sport, but we must be careful. We don't want too much noise. A quite game like cricket is ali right, but rugby is much too rowdy." Dealing with the Progress League’s requests, Mr. Forbes said lie was pleased to see some people taking an active interest in Borough affairs. Howevei he would like some suggestions as well as to how the money was to be raised to meet ail the expense that the improvements asked for would incur. How could ratepayers be asked to pay tot all these tilings?
