The figures for National War Havings for the city on Saturday, March 18th, .1944, were £4O. Cricket Cancelled Due to unsatisfactory ■weather conditions all cricket set down for Saturday in Palmerston North was postponed. Illegal Electrical Work The need for. greater publicity being given iirosecutions against persons doing illegal electrical work, was stressed at the annual conference of New Zealand Institute of Electricians in Palmerston North on Saturday. The dangers people ran in trying to mend their own appliances and such like when they knew little or .nothing about electricity, was emphasised. More prosecutions were also urged. The matter is to be taken up with the Power Supply authorities.
Food Coupons for To-day Tho tea, sugar and butter coupons to be used from to-day have been an* uounced by the Rationing Controller (Mr. J. .I.'. Thomas) as follows:—Tea: Coupons Nos. 21 to 21 inclusive, available for four weeks from March 20 to April 16 for a total of eight ounces of tea. ,Sugar: Coupons Nos. \ 21 to 24 inclusive, available for a total of 31b. of sugar from March 20 to April 16* in addition, a final .release of sugar for jam-making for the season w*ill be available at any time during the period from March 20 to June 11 on the sui*render of coupon Y 6, which has a value of 3lb. of sugar. Butter: A coupons 21 and 22 are available from March 20 to April 3 each of S ounces of butter; A coupons 23 and. 24 from April 3 to April 16 each for 8 ounces of butter.
