RINK WINS KING GEORGE HANDICAP

Sprint to Clarice and Stakes t« Subdued FIELD DAY FOR STABLE OF G. W. NEW The Manawatu autumn meeting was held on Saturday in showery weather. There was a fine attendance, however, and the totalisator investments amounted to £48,905 10s, compared with £63,343 10s last year. The feature of the day's racing was the success of horses trained by G. W. New at Awapuni, and of the stable's top Jockey. S. Waddell, who rode four winners. Time 2min. (Trainer: G. W. New, Awapuni.) Pompit Just beat Red Glare. Fompit and Red Glare fought ou the finish of the hurdles and Pompit lasted ( just long enough to win by a head. Pom- i pit was well clear running to the last fence but in the run to the judge Red * Glare just failed to catch him. Sea Quex . was the early leader but she fell up- j preaching the second hurdle. Pompit and Red Glare were together through the . straight and they were clear of Bright Dad, First Role, Roliicker and All In. J Toa-iti ran off a mile from home. Young Charles started to make up ground at the [ five and he got up to take third money ; ahead of Lightfair. \ Colais Narrowly from Master Ted. . There was another great finish in the - Te YVanaka Handicap and Colais, after ; holding a useful lead half a furlong from . home, hung on just long enough to beat < the fast-finishing Master Ted, with Palanui, Reorapa and Molly Martia all close up. Molly Martia, White Cap, Tudor Chief, Sival, Colais, Observatory, Reorapa and Master Ted were all well placed early but tliey had not gone far before Observatory "got the axe. ' The leading bunch at the home turn included Mull) Martia, Palanui, Colais, observatory, Tudor Chief and Reorapa. YV liite Cap was checked two furlongs from home. Colais had charge outside the last furlong but he had to be kept under a very hard ride to win. Master Ted was flying at the linish but he was beaten by half a head. Palanui, with Reorapa and JMolly Martia almost in line, was only a neck away. Observatory, Tudor Chief, Grey Donne and Sival were next. Rink Just Beat Nighean. Rink was favourite for the King George Handicap. Ho went to the front at the end of a furlong and he stayed there to t lie linish. Nighean, however, had him doing his very best over the last bit ami she was overhauling him fast when Rink reached the line a short neck to the good. Rink and Lambourn were leading from Nighean. Alethea and Sir Bradbury as they turned out of tlu straight and the lie Id was well bunched. Sunblaze went up t<> second at the half mile and the last three were Alchemy, Alethea and Yogi. Rink was first to turn for home and Nighean swung to the outer round Sunblaze. Rink looked a certainty with 77 furlong to go but Nighean made a brilH an t effort to catch him. Sunblaze was third two lengths back and Alethea was in line with him. Next home were Lambourn, Alchemy, lmperium and Y'ogi. Easy for Subdued. Heavy rain wus falling when the Stakes were run There were four starters and 1 the brilliant Ally. Subdued, was at short odds She bega77 s777oothly a7id she soon had a three lengths break on the others She was steadied passing the six and she was two lengths clear of Silvio entering . the straight. Silvio got a bit closer as . they straightened for the run to the, i judge but Subdued never left it in doubt . and she won by three lengths from Silvio with Theiolyn half a dozen lengths fur- ; tlier back.

Broiefield Won Decisively. Broiefield was favourite for the Wood hey and he took charge soon after turning for home and he won nicely by two lengths from The Grand. Starlet made most of the pace, being followed into the straight by Home Rule, Omahina, Broiefield, Donegal Bay, Latin Bay, The Grand and Golden Acre. Broiefield then went to the front and was never in danger. The Grand finished well for second and he beat Starlet by half a length. Fort Royal was fourth followed by Latin Bay, Donegal Bay, Bendemeer and Hakim. Langue d’Or Made it Four for the New Stable and Four for Stewart Waddell. The three races leading up to the Adderstone Handicap were won by Broiefield, Rink and Subdued, all trained by G. W. New and ridden by S. Waddell. Langue d'Or represented the stable in the Adderstone Handicap and he was ridden by S. Waddell. He drew wide but was soon in a handy position behind Vera Lynn, Crucible, Voltaire and Phoenix. Foxada and Phoenix went to the front at the six but Langue d'Or and Advocate were in charge at the four from Pongi, Social Climber, Alienate, Bunsby, Merger and Peter's Choice as they ran to the straight. Langue d'Or led into the straight and Alienate tackled him for the last furlong, Langue d'Or finishing gamely to win by a short neck. Bunsby was two lengths away third and Peter's Choice, followed by Pongi, was fourth. Clarice Won Brilliantly. The Johnston Memorial Handicap was an interesting race but Clarice finished too well for the others and she drew away smoothly to win from Theolateral, half a length in front of Kol Kagi, by three lengths. Kol Ragi began best from Lady Acorn and Tlu* Champ, but Killeymoon had moved up into second place at the four. Kol Ragi was first to turn for home with Killeymoon, Daljarrock, Theolateral, Lady Acora, Sterling Lad and Clarice following in that order. Theolateral headed Kol Ragi half way down the straight but Clarice then arrived on the scene and she went away to win very decisively. Tideless was fourth followed by Daljarrock, Killeymoon, Lady Acora and Palora. Abdicate Made it Five for the New Stable. I "With a fine finishing run Abdicate headed Lady Spiral half way down the straight and went on to win by two . lengths, making it five wins for the day for the stable of G. S. New. Lady Spiral I tried to win all the May and it was a very gallant attempt. Three furlongs from 1 home she was clear of Alchemy and Flying Ace, with Abdicate, Boulder Dam, 1 Entertainer and Moderate next in order. There was little change into the straight where Abdicate went up to take on Lady Spiral. Flying Ace was three lengths away third. Alchemy Mas fourth and Boulder Dam next.
