Foxton
(From Our Own Correspondent.) i Mr F. Woods /presided at a meeting of electors for the borough of Foxtoa for the purpose of selecting candidates 'for tho forthcoming borough elections. The meeting decided to form themselves into a Citizens’ Committee and candidates offering will bo required to go to the Poll under that heading, it being definitely decided that any matters of a political nature bo excluded. There was a fair attendance only, but the small number was more than made up for by tho enthusiasm shown. Tho following electors have signified their willingness to accept nomination under tho above conditions. ‘‘Mayor,” Mr. M. E. Perreau; council, Messrs. I). Brooks, R. Cochran, D. R. Barron, L. Fletcher, J. A. Prosser, S. G. R. Small, E. U. Martin, E. A. field and L. G. A. King.
The annual meeting of the Foxtou branch of tho N.Z. Labour Party was largely attended and presided over by Mr. J. E. Killick. The financial statement was received with a great deal of satisfaction, all considering the branch to be in a good state. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —President, Mr. J. LKillick; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. E. Titcombe; executive, Messrs. F. Shaw, A. J. Wyeth, JL H. Podmore and •T. P. Roache. Delegate to annual conference W. E. Titcombe. The president thanked all who had helped during the year, and hoped tlifTt the branch, would continue to advance as well in the future. The delegates to the L.R.C. were also thanked for their services in a difficult year. It was decided that the branch continue its meetings on the third Thursday in each month during the ensuing year.
