Women's Institutes

KELVIN GROVE Mrs. Callahan presided at the March meeting: when there was a very good at tendance of members. Several visitors wore welcomed. Mrs. McClelland, of the Federation executive, occupied the chair for the election which resulted in the following officers being elected:—President, Mrs. Williams; secretary, Miss Parker; treasurer, Mrs. Sollitt; committee, Mesdames Callahan, Creachen, Grayson, Maybe, Radomski, Ryan, Rees. F. Parker, Sollitt, Tozer, Vile, and Miss Parker; vice-presidents, Mesdames Callahan and Rees. Mrs. Radomski was elected competition reporter, and Mrs. Tozer press reporter. Mrs. Sollitt read letters from servicemen overseas, K. Grayson, F. Sollitt, J. Radomski and B. Kensington. There were -14 soldiers parcels sent overseas for the year, 14 knitted parcels, and three parcels within New Zealand. The Kelvin Grove Institute was in charge of the Patriotic Shop in the city on March 8. Mrs. Callahan won the points prize for the year in flowers and other competitions, and she received a special prize, kindlj donated by Mrs. K. Wolfsbauer. Competitions: Jam, Mrs. Callahan 1, Mrs. Vile 2, Mrs. W. Parker 3; single flower, Mrs. Vile 1. Mrs. Ryan 2, Mrs. Callahan 3, cluster, Mrs. Maybe 1, Mrs. Radomski 2, Mrs. Rees 3. Thanks were accorded Mrs. McClelland for her attendance. Mrs. Rees was elected convenor of the soldiers’ parcel funds and Mrs. Williams secretary. Hostesses for April will be Mesdames Vile and Rees while the competition will be a jar of tomato relish. Mrs. Sollitt read the annual report.
