Kiwitea County Council

The Kiwitea County Council met at Kimbolton on Wednesday Councillor L. T. McLean (chairman) presiding. There were also present Crs. W. P. Shaw, J. H. Williamson, F. E. Tappin, D. T. Couper, W. G. Clapham, D. Stent, A. E. Shannon and D. G. Jensen. A welcome was extended to Cr. Jensen, who was recently appointed to the vacancy on the counci; caused by the retirement of Cr. A. S. D'Ath, who has left the district. It is reported that inscribed loans amounting to £5098 las 3d had maturea in February reducing the indebtedness of the county in respect of inscribed loans to £27,145 Ss. The Publii Works wrote forwarding £334 12s 9d representing subsidy on maintenance on Main High ways. In connection with the proposal to revise the West Coast Counties Joint by-laws it was stated that a meeting of county engineers and clerks would he held in Palmerston North on March 2t to discuss the matter. Mr. W. L. Hesseltine (county clerk) and Mr. J. Hall i nan (overseer) will represent the council at the meeting. The county finances were reported or. as follows:—County fund account cdt. £2967 12s sd; Kimbolton cemetery account cdt. £5 15s Id; Rangiwahia cemetery account cdt. £6 3s sd; Wailuna cemetery account cdt. £l3 2s lid; land fund account cdt. £77 16s. Accounts amounting to £2423 15s 9d were passed for payment. The rate statement revealed that of the general rates amounting to £S23B, a total of £8176 Is 9d had been paid leaving outstanding £62 13s So. Of the special rates totalling £7090 4s 3a, the sum of £6975 6s 2d had been paia. The county clerk (Mr. W. L. Hesseltine) reported that a sum of £23 11s lOd was outstanding on account of arrears’ of rates over the past three years. Councillors agreed that the position was dis tinctly satisfactory.
