Increase in Cars last Year

There were 397,371 licensed motorcars in New Zealand at December 31, 1913, this being equal to ono for every eight of the population. The total at the end of 1913 was 189,309, so that the increase during the year was 8062, according to figures given in the latest Abstract of Statistics. Though cars licensed showed an increase, there was a decline of 1912 in the total number of motor-vehicles of all classes from 28(i,829 in 1942 to 284,587 in 1943. Tho most marked decrease was the number of licensed Government vehicles, from 10,132 to 4453. There was also a substantial decline in the number of motorcycles, which totalled 11,431, as against 15,432 in the previous year.
