Auckland Housewives Bring Out the Oil Burner
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 15. When Auckland housewives set about preparing their evening meal to-day it was evident that the conservation of gas that had been hoped for through the cessation of industrial supply and the limiation of hours for domestic users had not been achieved. The pressure in many homes, particularly in the low levelß, showed an improvement at midday, but in the evening it dropped considerably. Once more all manner of makeshift methods had to be resorted to. Open fireplaces and oilburners had to do duty in place of gas stoves, many of which could not produce sufficient beat for pratical purposes.
