Lieut. C. D. Velvin received the Feilding Patriotic Society’s presentation at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday. Missions of the British Sailors’ Society, the Apostleship of the Sea and the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen will combine for the Merchant Navy day at the Feilding Patriotic Shop on Friday. This joint appeal, which is an annual one, will be in the capable hands of a committee of ladies representing the local churches, who solicit citizens’ help by way of donations and patronage at the shop. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Christian, of Awahuri, have received advice that their son, Gnr. Monty Christian, was recently publicly commended on parade for his work in recent operations in the Pacific while serving with an Independent Battery attached to the Third New Zealand Division. In a letter to Mr. Christian, Gnr. Christian’s commanding officer said: "i feel sure that you would like to know that I have recently publicly commended your son on parade for his work in the recent operations. He was outstanding in his ready willingness to work long hours under difficult conditions and in the reliability and efficiency with which he carried out his duties.’’ Gnr. Christian was educated at the Lytton Street School, Feilding, and also at the Palmerston North High School. CONTEMPT OF COURT APPROVED “Is witness chewing ?” Quick! v Counsel interposed . . .“Oh!
