Te Arakura
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. M. R. Sherwood, who has been staying with Mrs. L. E. Hansen, has returned to her parents’ home in Sydney. Mrs. D. T. Johnston, in company with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Ilume, is holidaying at Napier. Mr. Ray Jepsen is on holiday at Napier. Miss I. J. Skinner, assistant teacher at the Te Arakura School, has accepted a position at Lauriston, near Rakaia, Canterbury, and will be leaving the district at the end of the school term. Mrs. L. E. Hansen who, with her children, has spent some- time at Petone, is now hop-picking in the Nelson province. A pleasant function took place recently when the Te Arakura unit of the Home Guard held a dance to wind-up their activities. Lieut. A. E. Wilkins, in thanking the men of his unit for their loyal support, announced that the accumulated funds would be disbursed as follows:—Te Arakura Patriotic Society £2O, Te Arakura Ladies’ Guild £3, Te Arakura School a football. On behalf of the late Home Guard, Mr. G. Whltelock presented Mr. Wilkins with an enlarged photograph of the men of the unit. Competition winners were Mrs. Turner 1 and R. Burns 2, both being Feilding residents. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. K. Galloway am# B. Gardner Extras were played by Mrs. Tait, of ’ Balance. Mr. G. Whltelock entertained with several vocal solos, his accompanists being Mrs. Tait.
