Priority Egg Rationing To Start in All Main Towns
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 11. A scheme for priority rationing of eggs in cities and towns where they are expected to be in short supply was announced to-day by the Food Rationing Controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas. The scheme comes into operation on Monday, March 20, and the ration allowed is three eggs a week. The districts affected are Auckland, Wanganui, New Plymouth, Hastings, ; Napier, Palmerston North, Masterton, Carterton, Wellington, Blenheim, Christ - : church, Timnru, Dunedin and Invercar- : gin. Coupons to be used are tho “D” ► coupons contained in ration books ; issued to children up to five years of age and in the supplementary ration 1 books issued to expectant mothers. One coupon is to be used each week, coupon ’ No. 20 in tho first week commencing I March 20, No. 21 in tho second week commencing March 27, and so on. Coupons numbers 1 to 19 are cancelled. 1 Each coupon lias a value of three ‘ eggs and must be used in the week | when it is available. Children from ! six months and up to five years of ago ’ on January 1 last, will work on “D’’ i coupons and so receive tlireo eggs a ! w r eek. Expectant and nursing mothers have 1 one sheet already in the supplementary ’ ration book and will receive another sheet on presentation of the book to a rationing officer. They thus will receive six eggs a week. Rationing officers will also issuespecial sheets ot’ “D” coupons to persons presenting medical certificates showing that they are suffering from diabetes, peptic ulcer, nephrosis, tuberculosis, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease (in children) and certain other ; diseases usually treated in hospital. Priority consumers in possession of ' “D’’ coupon sheets are to register with any retailer handling eggs in the same wav as sugar registration. ! Retailers will collect tho necessary ' counterfoils from “D” coupon holders and submit them to the local rationing officers, who will then arraugo for priority eggs to be made available to the retailor in accordance with* the number of registrations he collects. Each sheet and counterfoil constitutes a separate registration.
