Mr. W. H. Horton, the popular secretary of the Manawatu Golf Club, is in hospital as the result of a sudden indisposition on Saturday morning. Hopes for a speedy recovery are extended. The many friends of Squadron i Leader E. W. Barnett, son of Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Barnett, of Palmerston North, who entered the Christchurch hospital last Tuesday, will be pleased to hear that his condition is now showing some slight improvement. Mr. McAdams, of Tokomaru, who has been on the maintenance staff of the Railway Department for the past 10 years, is, with his wife and daughter, leaving to take up his residence at Mangaonoho, having been promoted to the position of ganger. Mr. and Mrs. McAdams have received the good wishes of many friends for success in their now home. The death has occurred of Mr. J. M. Barr, a well-known farmer of the Kaipara district. Mr. Barr came to New Zealand from Canada and was for 20 years in business in Palmerston North. Lu 1917 he acquired a properly near Glorit, which he developed into one of the best in the district. In his earlier days Mr. Barr was a keen rifleman, and competed at the national meetings at Trentham. Mrs. Barr died seven months ago. Mr. Barr is survived by two sous. A Melbourne cable states that the death has occurred of Sir Colin Fraser, aged 69, chairman of directors of Broken Hill South Limited and Director of Materials and Supply in the Commonwealth Munitions Department. He was born in Coromandel (Auckland), was a mining geologist in New Zealand and later consulting engineer in London before becoming associated with Broken Hill operations. He attended the Ottawa Conference as a representative of tho Australian metal interests and was knighted in 1935. He leaves a widow' and two daughters.
