Mrs. J. Howell, Wistaria Lodge, Feilding, is a visitor to Stratford and is the guest of her son, Mr. F, Howell. A Girl Guide international service has been formed, which, with other voluntary organisations approvod by the Allies, will work in relieved territories after the war, says a London message. Six hundred Guiders and Bangers have already volunteered, and two teams of 30 girls each have been fully trained ready to travel to Europo immediately relief work can begin. The death is reported in a London message of Beatrix Potter (Mrs. Helen Heelis), one of the most beloved author-artists of modern times. She became famous for her quaint animal teles for children, and her stories, the best-known of which is ‘ ‘ The Tale of Peter Babbit, ’ ’ are regarded as classics of literature for the very young.
