Returning Air Force Men Killed in Plane Crash

Received Friday 12.42 a.m. SYDNEY, March 9. A minute after the propeller broke from the starboard engine of their transport plane and ripped through the wing 17 Allied Air Force men parachuted into wild mountainous , country near Laguna (New South Wales). Two men were killed in- , stantly when their parachutes failed < , open. The plane travelled six miles < after the propeller broke away and } made a crash landing. Five Air Force j men who remained in the plane were uninjured. j The plane was travelling from New * Guinea to Sydney with 22 Air Force ; men most of whom were on leave. Some were playing cards when they t heard the crash of the propeller ana i the ripping sound of metal tearing \ from the wing. They quickly re- ] sponded to orders to don their parachutes and jump from the plane which lost altitude quickly. Most of a the men had not Jumped before. a Three injured men were admitted to t hospital.
