Mr. J. Logan Stout, Senior Magistrate, Wellington, and Mrs. Stout, formerly of Palmerston North are visiting the city and are staying at the Majestic Hotel. The appointment of Mr. Harry Evelyn Anderson, of Wellington, as chairman of the Government Railways Appeal Board in place of Mr. Alfred Coleman, of Feilding, who retired on account of pressure of magisterial duties, was notified in last night’s Gazette. Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel A. C. Couston, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, has been appointed honorary consultant psychiatrist to the Army, according to a notice in last night’s I Gazette. Colonel Couston relinquishes command of the remedial training camp at Rotorua. * The death is reported from Nelson of Mr. Thomas Newman, aged 84, whose name is bound up with the history of transport in Nelson, Marlborough, the West Coast and Canterbury. He was the first and last man to drive coaches in this area and the first to arrive in Nelson in an aeroplane. Thomas and his brother Harry founded the firm of Newman Brothers, so well-known in i travel service.
