Road Transport of Racehorses Restricted
L RELAYING OF HORSES f FORBIDDEN a (Per Press Association.) i WELLINGTON, Marcti 7. a The Minister of Transport (Hou. J. a O'Brien) announced to-day that he had v reluctantly taken steps to prevent the I transport of racehorses to sales or race 1 meetings, even hy private car and i trailer, -where road travel exceeded 30 c miles—means of transport which he t found many owners were arranging, c “The fairest way is to make the re- c striction applicable irrespective of j whether the conveyance is hy public j carrier or not, and a warrant is being issued for that purpose. i “Owners are warned that traffic in- | specters have been advised to be on . the watch for the purpose of enforcing , the restriction, as it is not considered . in the interests of the country and the war effort at the present time for petrol , or tyres to be used for such purposes as i the long-distance conveyance of racehorses. ‘ * The restriction will include any journey involving more than 30 miles , of road travel and the wording of the order anticipates and forbids any efforts to circumvent the restriction by relaying horses for parts of the journey,” said the Minister.
