Mr. Hislop Withdraws From Wellington Mayoralty
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 7. After 13 years as Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop to-night announced the withdrawal of his nomination to avoid a three-cornered contest between himself, Mr. W. Appleton and Mr. J. Roberts in the approaching mayoral election. Mr. Appleton having previously announced his intention to stand in any circumstances, Mr. Hislop said to-night that rather than run the risk of Labour gaining control of the city through vote-splitting between Mr. Appleton and himself he had decided to withdraw.
