Rangitikei and Hawke’s Bay Wheat
Most of the grain crops in the Rangitikei district were harvested before the weather broke. Ear.ly sown crops have proved to be lighter than usual but quite satisfactory. The late sown crops, because of the exceptionally dry weather just after the plants became established, are also light and the grain is shrivelled and not altogether suitable for milling. The grain from the better crops, however, is quite good as regards moisture content. Particuarly good lines of wheat have been harvested in Hawke’s Bay where there is a definite increase in acreage this year compared with the general decrease in other wheat growing districts. The area in Hawke’s Bay has increased from 20 Oi) to over 4000 acres, other areas showing a decrease of over half what was sown in previous years.
