Fines and Penalties
Mr. H. P. La wry, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Palmerston North yesterday. George Horace Cooper admitted intoxication while in charge of a bicycle. He was fined £2. H. T. Carey admitted selling liquor after hours and was fined £ls with 30s costs. His barman, C. W. McQueen, who was charged with permitting consumption after hours, was also fined £ls with 10s costs. Both had been convicted previously for similar offences. Three men found on the premises were each fined £2 with 30s costs, and a fourth, who had a previous conviction, was fined £3 with 10s costs. IL J. Davis, for selling liquor after hours, was fined £5 with 30s costs and his porter, E. Lowe, £2 with 30s costs for supplying. Davis had previous convictions, it was .stated. Several cyclists appeared to answer charges of riding at night without lights or on footpaths. The fines ranged from 5s to £1 plus costs.
