Jap Killers Hunting American Airmen
Received Monday, 10.50 p.m. CHUNGKING, March 5. The Japanese are sending bands of paid gunmen through the Chinese lines to murder American officers, especially fliers, according to a warning given by Chinese military officials to the American Air Force. At least 200 specially trained killers disguised as Chinese peasants have been assigned to certain regions where they are receiving wages of 400 Chinese dollars daily with liberal bonuses for killing officers. Both the Chinese and Americans are taking general security measures. The Japanese in North China have started digging a i.ew course for the Yellow River, diverting it to the Wei and thence to the sea a hundred miles north of the present mouth. The newspaper Sao Tangpao explains that by building this water barrier the Japanese are preparing for a last ditch stand in North China.
