Mr. and Mrs. F. E. B. Lovelock, of j ‘ ‘ Waverley Island,” Eureka, Hamilton, are visitors to Palmerston North, and J they are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. ' Roy Haselden, Dahlia Street, j A long iteriod of service in the interests of Newmarket has ended with | the death of Mr. Samuel Donaldson, at j the age of 72. Mr. Donaldson had been i Mayor of Newmarket for 23 years. I Previous to becoming Mayor, he sat continuously as a councillor from 3911 to 1921. With the exception of two elections, he held office unopposed. Mr. Godfrey Fretwell is terminating his pastorship of the Churcli of Christ, Wanganui, on March 12, in order to undertake the pastorship of the Church of Christ, Palmerston North. He succeeds Mr. L. R. Usmar, who is now undertaking chaplain’s duties with the Forces. Born in Nottingham, England, Mr. Fretwell began his working life as a coalminer and worked underground for 15- years. Called to the ministry in England, he went to Australia in 1912, from whence he accepted an invitation to the pastorate of the church at Invercargill, where ho remained for five and a-half years. During that period he was elected Dominion president of the Associated Churches of Christ in New Zealand. Mr. Fretwell has the distinction of being the only member for his churcli in New Zealand who has, for a second term, been appointed to the Dominion presidency, a position which lie now holds.
