AWAPUNI TRACK GALLOPS STING WAS OUT OF THE GROUND ON SATURDAY Friday’s rain took the sting out of the ground for Saturday’s track work at Awapuni and a number of horses engaged at Trentham on Saturday were sent along against the watch on the course proper, where the flags were about 16 feet out from the rails. Gold Money Song (V. Sellars) appeared to be going a little bit easier than Sea Quex (A. Midwood) at the end of five cut out in 1.6 1-5, the last three in 39 4-5, but there was not much between them tit the finish. Theiolyn (S. Waddell) and Subdued (A. S. Ewan) were companions over six. They began really well, running the first three in 40, and they came home the last three in 41 to complete in 1.21. Theiolyn was being kept up to his work at the finish but he was not far away from Subdued at the post, lie is engaged in the Plunket Handicap at Trentham and six furlongs should suit him. Theolateral (T. Paul) sprinted six on bis own and he maintained an even pace throughout, finishing with something in reserve in 1.20 1-5, the last three in 39 4-5. Niglican (M. Andrews) was going a bit better than Lady Spiral (J. Jenkins) at the end of seven . < in 1.35 2-5, and they came home well in 41. Our Pat (N. Rouse) was responsible for quitu an attractive effort over seven. He cut the distanco out in 1.35, running the last three in 40 3-5. Vera Lynn (J. Jenkins) and Old Glory (Fagan) worked well over a mile in 1.51, the first furlong taking 17 and the last three 41. Glenurquliart (Andrews) began brilliantly in a five-furlong flutter with Golden Days (N. Howard) and was soon well clear. The latter closed the gap to a length at the finish. Glenurciuhart ran the five in 16 2-5 and the last three in 40. Happy Climax (Jenkins) and Stoney Broke, by Inflation from Sea Scout (Andrews) were in front of Choral Dance (Rouse) at the end oi half a mile run in 54. They just broke 40 for the last three and they galloped attractively. Red Glare (Jenkins) went once round, running the last six in 1.23. Sir Bradbury (Andrews) was one of the last to work before the breakfast Interval He hopped away short of the five and he was travelling at top when he passed the mark. He came home strongly and easily in 38 4-5 to complete in 1.5. It was a very nice trial.

That was the quesi tion put to its readers by a popular Manchester weekly. Many responded, and from their replies it axipearcd that cigarette smokers 1 got through • from 3U to 300 cigarettes during the seven days, w-hile pipe smokers con- | sumed from two ounces to a pound of ‘‘weed" in the same period. A doctor wrote lo the editor saying he considered the latter quantity excessive. Perhaps it is. LVt it all depends on the tobacco and the percentage of nico--1 tine in it. liappilv, Maorilanders don't have to worry about nicotine. Our incomparable New Zealand brands, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Cavendish Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Kiverhead Cold, Desert Gold and Pocket Edition, are practically free from the poison, thanks to "toasting." That magical process (the manufacturers ’ own) renders these famous blonds safe for even the immoderate smoker. Pure, sweet, fragrant and comforting, money cannot buy better! Their popularity is demonstrated by the ever-increaßing demand for them. From one end of the Dominion to the other they are appreciated by smokers everywhere.
