Why Freezing Workers Want More Tobacco

(Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, March 3. A statement on the requests of freezing workers for tobacco has been handed to the press by the secretary of the Makarewa branch of the Freezing Workers’ Union (Mr. K. Davis). “A great deal of misunderstanding exists in the minds of the general public about the requests of the freezing workers for more adequate tobacco supplies,” said;Mr. Davis. “Many people appear to believe that freezing workers are demanding extra tobacco. This belief is entirely false. All that tho freezing workers ask is that they shall be assured their usual supply. It must not be forgottcu that the work of most freezing workers is of a very arduous nature. “Experience in Great Britain has shown that the longer the hours and the more arduous the work tho more need there has been for tobacco,” he said. “I believe tlmt the Government should take these factors into account and make available to those with long hours and heavy work more adequate supplies of tobacco. Just as adequate supplies of tobacco are made available to soldiers so should the front line fighters in industry be assured of regular supplies.”
