Compensation for Land

COURT AWARDS £39,960 The Compensation Court consisting of the Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston and -Messrs J. Stanford (Marton) and 11. J. Duigan (Wanganui) has awarded Charles Thomas Keeble, farmer, of Fitzherbert West, the sum of £39,960 plus interest, as compensation for laud taken for a military camp at Linton. The details of the award are us follow: Land taken (722 acres) £32,860, compensation for forced sale £4OOO. compensation for severance £3OOO, loss of grazing £IOO. Interest was fixed at 5 per cent, from the date of entry to the date of payment. Costs amounting to £4OO were also awarded Keeble. At the hearing Mr. P. Dorrington (Dannevirke) and Mr. G. Crossley (Palmerston North ) appeared for claimant and Mr. H. R. Cooper with Mr. J. D. Brosnan (Wellington) for the Crown.

Messrs. H. R. Poole and L. Mew, the newly appointed chief clerk and telephone manager, respectively, at the Palmerston North Post Office, have taken up their duties.
