Manawatu-Oroua River Board

The Mauawatu-Oroua River Board met yesterday, Mr J. Callesen presiding:. Approval was given to an arrangement made by a sub-committee of the board with the Palmerston North River Board that the two bodies should share the cost j of installation and annual upkeep of j rainfall gauges at various points in the . vicinity of the upper reaches of the Manawatu River. The engineer (Mr H. R. Farquher) reported that two minor breaks in the lower part of No. 1 separate area still remained to be completed; also several 1 ; earthquake subsidences. All the serious 1 breaches in the banks of No. 2 separate area had now been closed by filling the holes and re-erecting the banks in the original positions, but several earthquake subsidences had yet to be levelled and the banks raised. In the Buckley area further work required to be done. Work in hand in various parts of the board's distinct was reported on in detail by Mr Farquhar. j The engineer was instructed to prepare plans for the construction of a spillway in the Moutoa at Dr. Bryant's, and the chairman is to investigate the possibility of Government assistance. Consideration was given to the dewatering of the Lower Moutoa and the engineer was asked to report further on the matter. Acting on a recommendation by the engineer, it was decided to sow a number of banks in paspalum.
