National Day of Prayer
Feilding' and district Churches will observe the National Day of Prayer today and every citizen is invited to partic;-] pate. In Feilding all Churches are arranging special services. Mass is to be celebrated at 7 a.m. at St. Brigid’s Church, while at 8 a.m. there will fre a united Holy Communion service at the Anglican. Church. Intercession services will be held at all churches this evening. In addition to the foregoing there will be a citizens’ service in the Tivoli Theatre at 12.10 p.m. to-day and it is expected that every citizen will make a point of attending this service which is expected to last for 35 minutes. The ministers of the town will conduct the united intercession service and as the celebration is Empire-wide and commanded by his Majesty the King, this appainted Day of Prayer should appeal to all in this crisis in which the fate of our civilisation is threatened. The whole of the business community is requested to participate in the gathering which has been arranged for the lunch-hour break. District services under the direction of the Anglican Church, Kiwi tea, will also be held to-day with services at Kimbolton at 11 a.m., Beaconsfield 2 p.m., Cheltenham 3.30 p.m. and Kivvitea at 7.30 p.m. Mr. F. Lawler, of the railway staff, Taihape, has arrived in Feilding to fill the vacancy caused by the transference of Mr. A. L. Newman to Otahuhu. The patriotic shop to be held in Feilding to-morrow (Friday) will be conducted] by members of the Stanway Women’s institute. Donations of produce, etc.', are solicited—ring Miss ’phone 2235, Feilding. All male members of the Feilding E.P.S. organisation arc .warned by advertisement on this page of a compulsory parade to be held on Saturday afternoon for the purpose of completing the slit trench system in the town. Slit trenches are definitely of the utmost importance in the protection of life against a hostile bombing raid. Feilding’s telephone exchange is shortly to be installed in the P. and T. Department’s building immediately next to the “Times” Office in Manchester Square, Feilding. The pathway between the premises occupied by the “Times’’ and the P. and T. Department’s building is to be provided with two lights for the convenience of staff. Modern equipment is being installed and it is expected that the new premises will meet requirements pending attention to the Post Office building, which is unlikely until conditions are more Or less normal again.
