Advice has been received by FlightLieutenant E. W. Barnett of his promotion to that rank dated from Ist April, 1942. Mr and Mrs L. Wood, of Kowhal Avenue, have received cabled advice that their son, Sergeant-Pilot Russell Wood, who is continuing his training for the R.A.F. in Canada, has gained his wings. While engaged at work on Monday Mr Keith Sloman, son of Mr and Mrs F. J. Sloman, of Wood Street, met with a most painful accident. Ho was striking a nail when it fell back and penetrated an eye, causing a severe injury. Mr Sloman was taken to the hospital where he is now undergoing treatment. Sergeant-Pilot Cedric Young, who it was mentioned in the cable news last evening, is a member of the famous Shark squadron flying bombers in the Western Desert, is well-known in Palmerston North. He attended the Technical School and later entered the office of Messrs Bagnall and Keeble, remaining there for about six years. SergeantPilot Young was well-known as a member of the Manawatu Racing Club’s totalisator staff, and he took a keen interest in amateur theatrical matters, appearing in several productions by the Little Theatre Society. About 18 months ago he entered the Royal Air Force and, after some training in New Zealand, went to Canada and was later posted to the Middle East. His parents reside In Bulls.
