Arrangements are in hand for a reorganisation of the Feilding telephone exchange and its location in another building.
The Rev. W. ~L. Low of St. John’s Anglican Church who has been chosen for duty as a Padre with the Forces was accorded a social evening by parishioners in Feilding on Saturday evening to mark his departure for camp.
Following the colcl southerly gale which swept over Feilding in the middle of last wek the weather cleared to provide a beautiful week-end of sunshine. Over Saturday night a sharp white frost was experienced but yesterday was a perfect spring day.
The band of the Ist Wellington-West Coast Regiment which visited Feilding on Friday to assist in the Patriotic fund appeal effort remained to render a further programme of items duiing the evening when further contributions to the day's collections were received. Jt is expected that the total collections for tne day will be in the vicinity of £lO7.
Compared with the values ruling at the end of August 1941 fat sheep prices at Feilding on Friday showed a marked increase, hogget mutton being up Os a head and ewe and wether lines up 10s a head. In August last year ewe mutton sold at an average of 19s a head and on Friday was making 30s and over while the best of the wether mutton made over 40s on Friday compared with 30s in August last. Beef is dearer to-day than it was in August last when a line of good bullocks made £l3 17s 6d compared with a like price for a single steer obtained on Friday but not carrying the same condition.
