Caribbean Sinkings

Received Friday, 7 p.m. WASHINGTON, Aug. 27. Three ships were torpedoed and sunk, two within the space of four minutes, one night in the Caribbean in the first large-scale assault since June, when convoying was introduced. They included a medium-sized United States merchant vessel. It is believed that two submarine* attacked two vessels travelling closely together. A radio operator explained that the submarines had changed their tactics. They now lie in wait for. passing vessels, rpring up and make a quick attack and' then retire.
