The Town Bridge

SCOUR UNDER THE PIER. Several days of rain have brought the Mangatainoka river up until to-day it is running almost bank high, but there is no flood danger at all. The pool under the temporary span of tho Town Bridge is completely enclosed but it eddies aud boils continually, indicating both inflow and outflow between the piles under the pier. If a stick is dropped from the wooden bridge it goes under and eventually floats down the main stream. Just what is going on under there may be no secret from our engineers but it is the cause of much anxious speculation by the man in the street.
