Potato Growing
QUESTION OF SEED BEFORE PRODUCTION COUNCIL At Tuesday’s meeting of the Dannevirke District Production Council, Mr. G. Cammock presiding, additional business dealt with was as follows: A telegram was read from the Director of the Fields Division, advising councils “That owing to the limited amount ol seed potatoes available, no further steps should be taken to increase the acreage in your district.’’—lt was pointed out that the Minister had stated that there was plenty of seed available, but the chairman considered that Mr. Poison must have been misreported and that he may have been referring to a specified area. The director intimated that a letter would be forwarded explaining the position, but the secretary said that no such communication had been received. The secretary reported unon the valuable work being carried out by the council in reference to appeals, and Woodville members also stated that they had inspected various farms to ascertain where production could be improved. It was also stressed that manpower was just as much needed in the Army as on the farms and that there was need to strike a proper balance.—lt was decided to write to the National Council requesting certain confidential information affecting appeals.
