Dunlop Again Wins Chess Championship

GYLES AND BURRY TIE FOR SECOND PLACE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Jan. 4. The New Zealand chess congress finished to-night, the championship being won for the sixth time by J. B. Dunlop (Otago). His scoro was 9i points out of a possible 13. He won seven games, drew five and lost one. A. W. Gyles (Wellington) and I. Burry (Auckland) were runners-up, each scoring nine points. Next came E. O. Scott (Wanganui) with eight points. Other scores were: P. Allerhand (Wellington) and K. Byer (Wellington) 74, D. I. Jones .(Auckland) and H. McNabb (Nelson) 7, E. C. Wade (Wellington) 64, E. H. Severne (Wellington) ss, D. Lynch (Hastings) 5, Dr. C. Bennett (Otago) 44, F. Vincent (Wellington) 4, F. K. Kelling ( Wellington) 1. Tu the premier reserves E. A. Durham (Wellington) and YV. J. Fairburn (Wellington) tied for first place with nine points. Next came J. D. Steele (Wellington) 84, E. G. C. Durham (Wellington) 8, J. L. Hardy (Wellington) 7, J. K. L. Webling (Wellington) 6, W. Dobson (Christchurch) 41, W. Cole (Nelson) 4, H. P. Whitlock (Wanganui) 34, A. S. Goldsmith (Wellington) 24, J. Kirkwood (Wellington) 24, C. Brunsden (Timaru) Is. Mrs. T. G. Short (Auckland) won the women’s championship with eight points. Next came Miss R. Burke (Christchurch) 4, Mrs. F. Vincent (Wellington) 34, Mrs. Wilson (Hutt) 24 and Mrs. J. D. Goldsmith (Wellington) 2.
